What have I been doing for the last 40 years?:

I started the last 40 years at Ohio U, where I earned my teaching credentials, and I've been teaching since I was 21. My first jobs were in the Vinton Co. Schools, and I lived in Athens. In 1983, I married Farmer Don, and moved to his family farm in Portage Co, OH (near Akron, about 6 miles from Kent). Don and his dad are grain farmers, and also ran a medium-sized hog operation for many years. Our sons are the 5th generation on Maplecrest Farm. Look on a map of Ohio, find West Branch State Park, and that's where I live.

Daniel and Benjamin Nething are both members of the Class of 2011: Daniel at Ohio U, and Ben at Southeast HS. Dan will be continuing grad school in Athens, in bio-chemistry. He hopes to eventually do research to develop new plant lines. Benjamin is our next farmer, and will start Ag Education studies at OSU in the fall. He is currently the secretary of the Ohio FFA, which is like doing a year of volunteer service to the organization, traveling all around the state. He just met the GAHS FFA kids at the state camp. My dad came to live with us 15 years ago.

I was a HS English teacher for about 15 years, and retrained in special ed 10 years ago. I have taught in large urban schools and small rural schools, and have taught all grades.I learned the most from my 7 years at the Juvenile Detention Center, where I kept having the same kids over and over and over. I work in the Warren City Schools and still enjoy my work every day.
